About

I am a Canadian-born philosopher based in Los Angeles.

As a professor, I’ve taught at Cal State LA for over twenty years, offering some of the earliest courses in trans theory and trans feminism. A sometimes performance artist, I’ve explored the line between appearance and reality in real time. A (now-retired) organizer and activist, my work in trans communities has informed my philosophical views which has, in turn, guided my work there. Along with C. Jacob Hale and Miqqi Alicia Gilbert, I am one of the founders of the burgeoning subfield now known as “trans philosophy.”
